Taxes on Businesses - Today's idea to re-energize our economy

On each of the last 13 days before the Nov. 2010 election, I'm offering a new idea, thought or comment on how we can better position Wisconsin for brighter day of economic prosperity and job growth.

3 Days Until Election Day
While Wisconsin ranks below average for corporate taxes, here’s the catch.  A majority of jobs are with small businesses and the taxes paid by small businesses are commonly paid through the individual taxes of the business owners.  It is these individual tax rates where Wisconsin ranks among the least attractive to investors and business owners.  Given our current budget deficit and fiscal challenges, accomplishing major tax reductions is unlikely in the short term, but neither can we afford to continue demonizing businesses and taking a ‘stick it to business’ or ‘stick it to the rich’ mentality that sends a clear message to most employers of ‘avoid Wisconsin’.
