On each of the last 13 days before the Nov. 2010 election, I'm
offering a new idea, thought or comment on how we can better position
Wisconsin for brighter day of economic prosperity and job growth.
10 Days until Election Day
State legislators, at the request of trial lawyers and in the name of
consumer protection, are constantly tempted to pass laws making it
easier and more lucrative to sue a manufacturer, retailer and other
employer. Of course we all support social goals such as consumer
protection. In considering legislation, I will continue to keep in mind
the cost of using the risk of costly law suits as a ‘stick’ to achieve
social goals. The reality is that investors and business managers
consider a state’s tort laws when as they decide where to keep and
create jobs.
