I saw our bio-energy future last week in Cassville. During a visit to Cassville on July 16, I met with representatives of Alliant Energy and the Wisconsin Public Service Commission. I think our region can be a global center of excellence for bio-energy research and development. At the Nelson Dewey Power Plant in Cassville, Alliant is using home-grown bio-fuels to mix with coal and generate electric energy. They use wood chips, pellets made
of wood and plastic 'ag bags' farmers use to store hay, pellets made from wood and a byproduct from the Badger State Ethanol plant in Monroe, and pellets made wood and switch grass. Such R&D is positive and exciting for
its excellent potential to create jobs and wealth in our region.
